The Space Upstairs is an informal artist space in Pittsburgh's East End for innovative multimedia ideas, intimate performance-installations, and new perceptions of how live, spontaneous art is experienced; a 4,000 square foot 'canvas' where artists and audiences can interact in the artistic experience together at a truly unique space for community engagement.

[PARTNERSHIP]
As a part of The Pillow Project's full-time residency and unique partnership with Construction Junction, the small arts company has been fulfilling the role of the gallery’s full-time management, directly responsible since 2007 for all in-house operations, managing outside rentals, financial development for immediate and long-term improvements and establishing the creative identity of The Space Upstairs. Above all, The Pillow Project is passionately driven to helping see the Space’s potential to make a meaningful community impact as a viable, one-of-its-kind venue in Pittsburgh’s East End.
This unusual affiliation between a multimedia dance company and building material reuse retailer has helped both organizations gain positive attention and patronage, and has been a fluid extension of both organization’s missions by using the resources at hand to make a meaningful, sustaining impact to Pittsburgh.

Please note that the only entrance to our space is up a long flight of stairs. We hope to one day make the venue more accessible.
