NEXT HAPPENING:
This month's happening features a collection of repertoire vignettes by The Pillow Project directly created in the cinematic style of Quentin Tarantino and David Fincher. All five "performance trailers" have been ongoing concept-projects by the company, one tracing back all the way to The Pillow Project's debut performance in 2004! [Vignettes to be performed after dark] ...surrounded by ongoing illustrations by The Pillow Project's resident visual artist, Jordan Bush.
This month's musical guest is Ricardo Iamuuri, local singer-songwriter and performance artist. Ricardo's music rests firmly upon the foundation of traditional folk music with the inspiration of musical theatre, urban blues, R&B, soul and classic hip-hop. Ricardo's music expresses his perspective on the paradox between the beauty of life and the strife we experience; the struggle to balance what we believe with what we know...sublime and thought provoking performance comprised of melodic simplicity, evocative lyrics and haunting vocals.
The SECOND SATURDAYS jazz-happenings are The Pillow Project's original creation for igniting a new movement of live, physical-jazz in Pittsburgh... sharing dance, light and music together in a truly unique jazz-lounge/performance-gallery atmosphere. Every second Saturday of the month features an evening open to the public of ongoing improvisational performances, live multimedia experimentations and honest, spontaneous, jazzed expressions of the moment.
Beginning from an invitation to return to Paris to perform and collaborate again with renowned jazz poet (and East Liberty native) Moe Seager, The Pillow Project will be traveling to London, Brighton, Paris, Dublin and Amsterdam May 15th through May 30th, 2012.
During this 5-city tour, the company will be independently studying and further developing their concepts of postmodern-jazz, creating original performances, photographic and film work, and spontaneously collaborating and playing movement with local musicians and artists in each city. The work created throughout the tour will later be performed in Pittsburgh at The Space Upstairs in June 2012.
On tour representing The Pillow Project's work will be Artistic Director Pearlann Porter, resident performing artists Kaylin Horgan, Brent Luebbert and Rebekah Kuczma, as well as company photographer Cassie Kay Rusnak. All five artists have previously traveled together to Paris in October 2011.
