About the event
The Pillow Project celebrates their 20th anniversary with their Cultural District premiere of THE LONG DREAM, a full-length dance work in three acts featuring the music of Berlioz, Brahms, Sibelius and live improvisational jazz. Created by Jaka Pearl Porter (Founding Artistic Director of The Pillow Project and The Space Upstairs), this movement chronicle spans the philosophical development of the company from its origin to present. Porter’s on-stage direction and live narration accompany the work in illustrating the ‘improvography’ method that has been the hallmark of the company.
THE LONG DREAM references the span over time of the creation of the improvisational dance company, commemorating its origin, honoring its growth and change, and celebrating the attaining of an established position in the Pittsburgh Arts community. The very first 'Pillow piece' is connected through to its very latest production with the narration of its Artistic Director as guide through twenty years of dreaming.
Porter adds, “My career has been the real-life extended dream of the child who danced in my livingroom to music videos on the TV, imagining myself bringing the music to life. It’s been everything I’d ever dreamed it could be, my own fantasia...”
